LOL I think the last time I posted was like 2 years ago. I dont know if any of you guys remember me but I have been on the forums for a while. So whats new you ask. Well My 97 Expedition is still in my possesion and has 130k miles on it now. Last time I posted it has like 95k. It still runs like new and still hasnt given me any problems. My f150 is still in my possession. It has 65k miles on it now also with 0 problems. I no longer have a 96 Mustang GT, I dont remember if I did the last time I posted. I have a 00 Mustang 3.8 now that Im in the process of selling. I bought it to drive daily and now it needs to go so I can get my hands on another GT. Life has been really busy lately but hopefully I can stick around again and continue answering questions. If theres any Ford chats going on you know Ill be there! I see a few familiar posters on here but it seems a lot has happened. |

| I always do my oil changes every 5-6k miles. It also depends on your driving style and where you live. My cars always get 93 octane fuel even with the rising fuel prices. I always used Mobil 1 oil. While it may be expensive, I feel that it is well worth it to have a 10 year old car that is like new. | |

Am planning to change the oil every 5,000 miles and also replace the air filter every 15k. Our new expedition has about 1300 miles on it and I plan to change the oil & filter in a few days. Have always been of the opinion that the 1st change occur fairly early. Will change again at 5k then every 5k after. Also rotate the tires every 5k with the oil change. The manual calls for 5k intervals and that seems fine to me since it is a v8 with low revving engine speeds. (When I've had 4 cyl engines, the interval was always 3,750.) As for gas, have always thought that using the prescribed octane was best for the engine. if it calls for 87, use 87. Wouldn't 93 run hotter than ideal? To me, unless the engine knocks or pings, going higher in octane may not be the best thing for the engine. |

I use what the engine is tuned for. I believe you get maximum energy, efficiency and service out of your engine that way. And I loathe cheapskates who will buy a premium car or engine, and then chisel on the fuel costs. If I can't afford ( or am just too cheap) to buy premium fuel, I would get a car that was made to run on regular.

nvbanker, am right with you. My other car requires premium and that's what it gets. The interesting sidebar about proper octanes is that many of the newer rides have electronic shifting for smoothing out gear changes. the engine is slightly retarded at shift points to make the shift smooth so, imho, using the wrong octane for what it is tuned for will cause rougher shifts. Thanks HOST for the article, was indeed timely! |

I agree completely. I'm only talking about cars that specifically require higher octane and are tuned for it. Isn't it funny though, that so many people will buy a premium car that does need the higher grade, and chisel to save a couple of dimes at the pump - and then there are those who drive a Focus, and "give it a treat" with premium fuel, like that will help? Of course, if you drive a Focus, I guess it won't break you to buy the high-test once in a while. Car and Driver tested this octane war theory a few months ago, or maybe years ago now, and found there are indeed some cars that the performance did improve or decline based on the octane rating that it ingested - and some that it made virtually no difference at all either way. I guess you can run your own tests - and go from there. |

Here's a link I stumbled upon detailing the changes for '05: http://www.fordaxz.com/pdf/2005.EXPEDITION.OG.pdf I REALLY like the new LIMITED model that is being introduced with its 301HP 5.4L engine, DVD navigation option, wood steering wheel and console, etc. etc....

Anybody know when the 2005 Expy will be available? SIgn me up for a Limited. I test drove a 2004 5.4 last night and it struggled up a hill near the dealership. Would hate to try it in the mountains...
