The old motor........ by nvbanker

Let me weigh in here on this old motor as well.

The 260hp 5.4 Triton was the engine in my 99 Navigator also. About a minute and a half after I bought mine, they brought out the 5.4L Intech engine, with 4V DOHC, but I missed it.

I never lacked for power, even towing, even towing up long grades and hills. Never. And that engine performed flawlessly for the 65,000 miles that I owned the car. I loved that engine.

Frankly, I don't notice the increased power much. This is an equally good engine, and maybe under load, it would be stronger. But the 260hp engine was always plenty for me too.

2005 Expedition on order by nckracer

My lease is up on my '03 Expy, so I ordered an '05 Eddie Bauer 4X4 with all options except for second row captains chairs. The only reason I didn't go with the limited is the monotone paint scheme. I still like the two tone, just looks a little nicer. I ordered it on the 24th of May. I have a vehicle order confirmation but no build date yet. No pricing has been released yet, but dealer guaranteed me invoice price plus any available rebates. I've been told to expect delivery after the first of August.

05 Delivery by tourguide

It'll be a miracle if you take delivery in August. You should plan on delivery some time in the first half of September. Job 1 for 05 Expeditions is August 2.

The order for my 04 took about 8 weeks and they tell you to plan on 6 to 8. You can't count on 6 to 8 starting until job 1 for the 05 production run I would guess. Maybe this is a question for your dealer.

Also, I'd want the invoice - incentives in writing. Unless you have it in black and white, it doesn't matter what they said.

Dem Brakes What is Breaks by davant

Our '03 Eddie-B XP only has squealing brakes out of the 1-2-3 problems recently discussed. We now have 32K on it and at least 10K of that was in traffic so I would expect to have to replace pads now. I find it odd that they just make a slight noise that is probably the wear indicators, not like any I've heard before.

What would one expect to pay for pad replacement with ceramic Raysbestos, or as they probably call it here, Bubba-sbestos or my-other-brother-ray's-doing-asbestos-he-can?

Welcome back to gas, oil, heck even anti-freeze as I'm not fluid prejudice.

Brake prices by tourguide

Cost on the replacements with the new Ford ceramic pads will run you between $300 and $400. These are prices I've seen thrown around the net.

Now, a set of decent ceramic pads from Tirerack.com will run you about $90 plus say $100-$110 for installation you can do it for $100-$200 cheaper by going with aftermarket pads and having the installation done at a mom-and-pop shop near you.

Whether or not you want to do this is a decision you have to make. Some folks have to have their work done at the dealership in order to be happy.

A/C Recharge by anthonysbmw

I am trying to add / check the R-134a in the A/C system in my 2001 Expedition ED with rear a/c. I can't find the low pressure value to check the system pressure / level of freon. I have found the high side right in front of the battery on the passenger side. Any idea where the low side valve is located?

Thanks

Just bought the 2004 and love it. However, I did notice a couple of items on the '05 that I might miss a little:

raised roof rails -- I like these better than the current rack; am going to use the thule from the old explorer we had with longer bars.

power folding mirrors -- had those added to my '04 from navigator parts. it ran me another grand to have done. Looks like the EB doesn't get them and I'd have gone with the eb over the ltd anyway.

Not sure the engine would have made a lot of difference to me. the '04 is pretty studly as it is. would have liked a 5 sp tranny tho, one more gear between 1st and 3rd would have been nice.

is only available to Ford Motor Co. employees, or relatives of same. It gives you the car at essentially the dealer cost.

X-Plan is available to anyone now nvbanker. All you need to do is find someone who is willing to part with one of their pins. I should know because my wife's uncle hooked us up on our 04 Expedition.

X-Plan pricing is MSRP * .87 or about $200 less than invoice. This essentially worked out to about a $1500 price difference from our best negotiated price.
