1992 4-cyl by typesix

You did not mention sparkplug cables. My 1989 4-cyl Camry usually requires new cables about every 60-70k miles. I have the stupid integrated distributor cap/wire set which requires replacing the whole assembly even if only one wire is bad.The engine will usually give a warning by running rougher than normal(may be hard to tell for some in a high mileage Camry)and lacking power.

As far as I can tell, the wires themselves are (thankfully) separate from the cap, and I see what you are getting at considering the amount of oil on the old plugs and how the wires create a vaccuum of sorts (oil more than likely corroded the metal connections in the wire. The strangest part of what actually happened when my car quit on me was what warning light came on right before it died...the "rear light failure warning light" I checked all of the bulbs and they all seem to be working properly. I fail to see how them going out would affect the car, but I have heard of stranger things...

Mike, did you check the high mounted brake light?

'04 Camry Pulling to Left by stee
Feb 05, 2004 (8:40 am)
I recently purchased an '04 Camry. The car drifts slightly to the left. It appears that others have the same problem. I am scheduled to have the alignment checked at the dealer but I am not optimistic. I contacted Toyota customer assistance at 1-800-331-4331. The representative advised that if enough complaints were posted, the engineers would try to figure out a solution. Give them a call if you are experiencing other than neutral tracking.

Wife called me before and says the tranny doesn't seem to be as smooth as it was. Car has 2100 miles on it (bought it 9/30/03). GUess I'll have to drive it and see what's going on.

Told her since she was out and realy close by to run over the the service dept and have them check it out. She went home instead. * Sigh * Women!

Clacking Noise on Acceleration in 98 Camry by guevinj
Feb 05, 2004 (1:02 pm)
The engine of my 1998 Camry LE 4 cylinder with 49,000 miles is very loud on startup, and makes a rattling noise on acceleration for the first several miles of driving. The noise lessens after the car has warmed up, but is still clearly noticeable. It sounds like valve lifters that are out of alignment. However I understand that there is no valve adjustment that can be made to these engines. Is that true? I do mostly city driving, 8 miles round-trip to work, with an occasional highway trip. Any suggestions on how I can get rid of this noise?

Nah, she never read the manual - I did, though - so she doesn't know how to turn it off. I tend to turn the OD off when doing local driving; is it possible that form some reason, even though it automatically resets when the car is turned off it didn't really? I'll have to drive it tonight to see for myself.

She thinks she might have been on some slippery pavement (real big snow melt the past two days here). Told her I wanted the Trac and VSC packages in the car.....

5sp tranny by canoe2

I noticed the tranny is not smooth as it supposed to be. If you put on brake but not fully stopping, then gently apply gas pedal, the car will be surging.

I noticed that; real neck-snapping. Almost as bad as my friend's 67 SS 427 Chevelle! I need a neck brace after riding with him!

I can really feel the difference between OD on and off. More noticeable than in my 98 Olds Intrigue. Fast slow-down.

I'll need to drive it a little to see for myself. I know that trans had an "adaption" period where it "learns" your driving habits. Maybe it doesn't like my ( or the wife's ) driving style?

Dealership called the other day to say time for next oil change. Wife said really? Bubbly Service Caller said "You should have 4000 miles". Wife said "Little over 2100. I'll be in in March."

Nice to see that they're keeping track!
