I've been buying new cars for more than 25-years. I always upgrade the tires since OEM tires are usually cheap. I normally upgrade to Michelin and get the extended road care with tire rotation and balance included. It's cheap insurance for less than $10 per tire and it makes the tires perform better and last much longer. This is the first car that has great tires on it. Mine came with Continental ContiTouring Contacts. However, I did have a balance problem and the dealership had to send them to a very good local tire shop since they have tape wheel weights rather than the clip on type. Very nice and I'm completely happy that they would send the problem to experts rather than do it themselves. If you notice a vibration problem at certain speeds (say 54-57mph) and it's not there at lower speeds or at higher speeds, you have a balance problem. Take it to your dealership and have the tires balanced.

Another people people should be aware of involves the radio. There is apparently an issue with the ignition coils that causes static on every station on the radio. It basically sounds like you're getting poor reception on every station. There's a bulletin out for this, and your dealer should know about this and fix it for you. Just picked up my Altima on Tuesday and it doesn't have the problem, so I think it may have been fixed on models built more recently.

Does anyone know what the cause of the hollow rolling noise that comes from the front right of the 3.5SE Altima as it is driven? It it most noticeable when the car goes over slightly uneven roads or concrete (vs. asphalt) roadways. I took the car in to my Nissan dealership to have it checked. After first diagnosing the problem as a faulty spring, the dealership said that they test drove the other 3.5SE's on their lot and noticed the same noise. They then checked with Nissan Motor Corp. and they diagnosed it as a "characteristic" of the car. Is anyone else experiencing this noise? If so, do you know how to resolve this problem? Any help would be much appreciated.

The radio static problem reared its head in my car today. I guess I spoke too soon when I said my car didn't have it. Time to call the dealer... I haven't noticed the rolling noise you're talking about, but maybe I'm just not listening for it. |

| I had 'static' problems in my Bose when I first got my car. It sounded like ignition noise and changed with engine speed. My Nissan dealer ordered some type of filter kit which fixed the problem. It's amazing that this wasn't picked up in the design/testing phases of the car! | |
| I've got a slight 'thunking' noise from the rear of the car going over rough pavement at slow speeds. The dealer diagnosed it as a strut problem. Replacement has been on order for a few weeks. I'll report on whether it fixes the problem. | |

I experience the same thing, but mine comes from the left. I'm taking it in after the holidays to get it checked out. I notice that it happens first thing in the morning on my way to work; when I get off and drive home, it's not as noticeable. It's still rather annoying and I don't want my new ride having problems like that. It feels like something with my left front tire as the steering wheel shakes slightly when this happens.

| I was curious if anyone else has noticed the rough ride (feel every bump and rough spot in the road) of their cars? I gave a friend a ride today and see commented that it rode like her GMC Jimmy...when I test drove it I did comment on the fact that it had alot of road feel but I was told it has sports suspension and it is supposed to be that way...anyone else heard this and is it true? | |
| Nissan tuned the suspension to be firm. Some of the car magazines have complained about it. I personally like it, but my last car was a sports coupe with a significantly firmer ride. | |
| Thank you for your input, I just wanted to make sure it was part of the makeup of the car and not something I should be worried about. | |
